Axle Replacement

So, early this year I got a little heavy on the skinny pedal and the rear end kicked out and hit a curb. Tore up the tire and wheel. Replaced those and thought all was good. Then at the spring meet, one of the guys following me said the rear wheel looked loose or had a wobble. Now I'm thinking of replacing the axle. A couple of questions for the group. I'm fairly mechanical minded but have never done an axle replacement.
1) Is it difficult to replace? Bent axle is on the drivers side.
2) Should I do both sides if doing one side? Car only has 550 miles on it.
3) Summit Racing looks like they have replacement axel's https://www.summitracing.com/search...dMatch&SortOrder=Ascending&keyword=sum-700126

4) Are these the correct replacement axels?
5) Is there anything else I need? I have quick jacks to get it off the ground to do the work.

TIA for any feedback and advice!

I have 2 axle shafts you can have for free. In the dfw area. Ford 9" axle. Youbwill need to check length and spline.

Rob, I have a pair of used 89 Mustang axles with 5 lugs in Creedmoor if you want them. thee is nothing wrong with them. I had the for spares.

That would be great. Do you have the bearings and seals too or would I need to buy those? Thx!

Rob

Just the axels. The bearings ad seals go in the rearend. The axle is the inner race of the bearing.

FYI....There are a couple of configuration for axel bearings and seals. You may not be able to determine your type until you have the pulled the axels. I replaced my wheel bearings last year. It took about 1.5 hours.

If you are tearing it apart, you may want to go back with 31 spline axles and a better center unit than the stock foxbody traction-lok.

I tend to turn repairs into improvements…..

Kinda late to this party. I just got around to registering. Rob you need to know what width your axle housing is or what it came out of. I assume it's an 8.8 Ford, Since that's the link you posted to Summit. Most likely Fox body Mustang, but they came with 4 lug axles so it must have aftermarket axles. Later Mustangs came with 5 lugs but are wider, so different axles. They could be 28 or 31 spline count depending on what carrier is in your car.

Steve, you said your axles are 89 Fox body, 5 lug. Are they aftermarket?

Not aftermarket. Fox body axles from an '89 Mustang. I think they are 28 spline. I didn't think to count them.

If I'm not mistaken Mustang did not have a 5 lug until the 94&up SN95 cars? So as usual I'm confused.
